About the Author

Ruth Deakin Crick, MEd, PhD, is Reader in Systems Learning and Leadership in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Bristol. She is one of the originators of the Effective Lifelong Learning Inventory, a self-assessment tool for developing learning power. Her research focuses on the implications of complexity and systems thinking for pedagogy. She co-directs the Learning Emergence network.

Cristina Stringher, PhD, is a researcher at the Italian Institute for the Educational Evaluation of Instruction and Training (INVALSI), and a lecturer at Roma Tre University. She currently serves as a member in the Project Advisory Committee of IEA's Early Childhood Education Study. Her interests focus on theoretical and empirical research in learning to learn development, with its lifelong and lifewide applications.

Kai Ren is a post-doctoral researcher at the School of Education, China Shaanxi Normal University. He is also a member of the learning power research team at the Graduate School of Education, Bristol University. Kai’s research focuses on learning to learn and how it relates to people's identities and stories.

This book examines North Korea’s nuclear diplomacy over a long time period from the early 1960s, setting its dangerous brinkmanship in the wider context of North Korea’s military and diplomatic campaigns to achieve its political goals. It argues that the last four decades of military adventurism demonstrates Pyongyang’s consistent, calculated use of military tools to advance strategic objectives vis à vis its adversaries. It shows how recent behavior of the North Korean government is entirely consistent with its behavior over this longer period: the North Korean government’s conduct (rather than being haphazard or reactive) is rational – in the Clausewitzian sense of being ready to use force as an extension of diplomacy by other means. The book goes on to demonstrate that North Korea’s "calculated adventurism" has come full circle: what we are seeing now is a modified repetition of earlier events – such as the Pueblo incident of 1968 and the nuclear and missile diplomacy of the 1990s. Using extensive interviews in the United States and South Korea, including those with defected North Korean government officials, alongside newly declassified first-hand material from U.S., South Korean, and former Communist-bloc archives, the book argues that whilst North Korea’s military-diplomatic campaigns have intensified, its policy objectives have become more conservative and are aimed at regime survival, normalization of relations with the United States and Japan, and obtaining economic aid.

About the Author

Kylie Message is Associate Professor and Head of the School of Archaeology and Anthropology at the Australian National University. Her research explores the role that museums play as sites of cultural and political exchange. Her current projects investigate the relationship between museums, citizenship and political reform movements in different national contexts. She is author of New Museums and the Making of Culture (2006) and co-editor of volumes that include Compelling Cultures: Representing Cultural Diversity and Cohesion in Multicultural Australia (2009) and Museum Theory: An Expanded Field (forthcoming). She is chief co-editor for the journal Museum Worlds (Advances in Research), managing editor for Museum and Society, and exhibition reviews editor for Australian Historical Studies.

This is a dense read that makes it's point in the introduction and part of the conclusion and the middle bits are sort of a toss up. If you want a history of protests on The Mall then this is the book for you, if you want a book that talks about how museums can be social activists this is not the book you are looking for. It is an okay companion piece if you have some prior context or just want to brush up on your knowledge of Washington DC organizations.

Really Useful Book!

The first edition of this book is wonderful, full of very precise vocabulary that is instantly applicable. The concept of integration is often talked about, but Michael Lugering has created a functional process to achieve it! This technique works the body/voice/mind while exploring the expressive moment, as a painter explores brush strokes. Plenty of solo exercises and great text. Pure genius!

About the Author

Daniel S. Sweeney, PhD, is a professor of counseling and director of the Northwest Center for Play Therapy Studies at George Fox University in Portland, Oregon. He is a past board member and president of the Association for Play Therapy. Dr. Sweeney maintains a small private practice and is an international presenter. He has authored or co-authored several books, including Play Therapy Interventions with Children's Problems, Counseling Children Through the World of Play, Sandtray Therapy: A Practical Manual, and The Handbook of Group Play Therapy. His books have been translated into Chinese, Korean, and Russian.

Jennifer N. Baggerly, PhD, is a professor and the chair of the division of counseling and human services at the University of North Texas at Dallas and has served as chair of the board of directors of the Association for Play Therapy (APT). She has taught and provided group play therapy for over ten years in schools and community agencies. Dr. Baggerly’s multiple research projects and over fifty publications have led to her being recognized as a prominent play therapy expert.

Dee C. Ray, PhD, is a professor in the counseling program and director of the Child and Family Resource Clinic at the University of North Texas. Dr. Ray has published over seventy-five articles, chapters, and books in the field of play therapy, and over twenty research publications specifically examining the effects of child-centered play therapy. Dr. Ray is the author of Advanced Play Therapy, co-editor of Child Centered Play Therapy Research, and former editor of the International Journal of Play Therapy.
